Can These Shoes Really Improve Your Workout?
Add this to the buzz about those sneakers that are supposed to help tone your legs: They can prevent injuries too. A study published in the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research found that dorsiflexion shoes, which position your heel lower than your toes, increase the workload on your anterior tibialis, a muscle along your shin. Since many activities emphasize the muscles on the back of the lower leg, strengthening the opposite muscles helps prevent imbalances that can lead to pain and injury. Try one of these pairs. -M.S.
